  18. The Gobbler is (just as the Beholder and the Sage) a member of the Beholder-
  19. family, the second generation Ethernet analyzer software DNPAP-group at the 
  20. Delft University of Technology. The first generation was the NetCure set 
  21. (NetMon, NetCapt, NetView). If you are interested in history: look for 
  22. NETCUR.ZIP (GO NOVA on Compuserve's CIS in DL-14).

  24. The Gobbler is run on a DOS-based Ethernet + packet driver networked PC. 
  25. Use the appropriate packet-driver (e.g. ne1000.com) from pkdr9.zip before 
  26. starting GOBBLER.EXE. Its screen layout is much like the NetMon screen setup 
  27. from the NetCure family. Together with the Beholder it offers all 
  28. functionality presented by the NetCure programs and much more...

  30. To get the Beholder: GO NOVA on CIS and download BEHOLD.ZIP from DL-14.

  32. NetCure was born (with NetMare as an alias) as a first offshoot of several 
  33. projects bundled in the Data Network Performance Analysis Project (DNPAP) at 
  34. the Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, 
  35. Laboratory of Computer Architecture and Digital Techniques. DNPAP's research 
  36. group has been initiated by Jan van Oorschot. The main attention of this group 
  37. is focused on the analysis and modelling of complex network structures, in 
  38. order to increase overall network performance.

  40. The DNPAP group offers you, (in cooperation with Artefact for the LAN part of 
  41. the world), a taste of things to come: a universal and powerful set of 
  42. network tools to support proper network management.

  44. To reach the large group of network managers worldwide, Jan van Oorschot 
  45. decided to offer NetCure and its decendants for free through the Internet. As 
  46. we have had a long and mutually stimulating relationship with Jan & his DNPAP 
  47. group, Artefact adds to his effort to bring DNPAP's network management tools 
  48. under the attention of as much 'LAN managers' as possible, by uploading these 
  49. tools to various public BBSs.

  51. NetCure has been very popular (thousands of copies have been downloaded up 
  52. till now!). People wanting to be kept informed on further developments 
  53. (Sage...) from the DNPAP group & Artefact, wishing to receive support on 
  54. NetCure/Beholder/Gobbler matters and eager to (financially) stimulate the 
  55. ongoing work, can register by sending in the accompanying registration form 
  56. with a cheque for US $100. (50% will go to the DNPAP group, 50% to Artefact)
